CANDARAS TO HOST WAYS & MEANS CHAIR’S SPRINGFIELD VISIT

Springfield – State Representative Gale D. Candaras (D-Wilbraham) announced today she will host a visit from House Ways and Means Chair, John Rogers, on Wednesday, December 3, 2003. Candaras, a Division Leader, will take the powerful House budget writer on a tour of area hospitals. She will use Roger’s Springfield visit to give hospital officials the opportunity to make their case for much needed additional funding.

“Our hospitals are major employers and vital to our local economy. It’s one thing for me to tell John [Rogers] about the Sisters of Providence Health System and the Baystate Medical Center and another thing for him to see the work they do and meet the staff for himself. One picture is worth a thousand words. John will now have a frame of reference when we bring our concerns to him,” said Candaras.

Candaras and Rogers will appear on WGBY TV Channel 57’s “The State We’re In” where they will discuss the western Massachusetts economy. Candaras has also arranged for Rogers to meet with Mayor Elect, Charles Ryan, and other Springfield legislators.

When Candaras was asked about the meeting between Rogers and Ryan, she stated, “I’m sure Charlie has questions for John and the sooner they meet the better, given the problems Springfield faces.”
