CANDARAS TREATS THE SENIORS TO PIZZA AND MASSHEALTH INFO

SPRINGFIELD – On Wednesday, October 1, 2003, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Mayflower Senior Center located at Wachogue Congregational Church, 80 Arvilla Street, Springfield, State Representative Gale D. Candaras (D-Wilbraham) will host a Pizza Fest for East Forest Park seniors.

The seniors will enjoy an afternoon of complimentary lunch while watching Candaras’ new cable show, A Woman In The House. Candaras’ show promises to be very informative on the latest changes to the state’s MassHealth insurance guidelines. Candaras and State Representative Daniel Keenan, House Chair of the Committee on Medicaid and featured guest, talk in detail about MassHealth’s altered regulations and how it will affect current MassHealth members and those who are applying for MassHealth coverage.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to provide crucial information to seniors regarding all the changes MassHealth is undergoing, which affects eligibility and guidelines relative to countable assets and the look-back period. However, what I am most looking forward to is the opportunity to share lunch with constituents and hear their thoughts and concerns firsthand – providing true public service,” exclaims Candaras.

Kathleen Murphy, Director of the Mayflower Senior Center, agrees with Candaras that it is important for seniors to be knowledgeable about issues which affect them. Murphy said, “seniors need information about what’s happening with healthcare and safety issues today. Representative Candaras is addressing that need.”

Candaras’ cable show will also be aired on October 17, 2003, 10 a.m., at the Wilbraham Senior Center on Stony Hill Road and October 27, 2003, 12:15 p.m., at the East Longmeadow Senior Center. The event on the October 1st is open to seniors in the East Forest Park neighborhood.
