CANDARAS ANNOUCES AVAILABILITY OF ROUND V HISTORIC LANDSCAPE GRANTS
Wilbraham – State Representative Gale D. Candaras announced today that
applications are now available for the fifth round of the Massachusetts Historic
Landscape Preservation Grant Program. In 1997, the Massachusetts Legislature
established a state-funded competitive grant program known as the Historic Landscape
Preservation Grant Program. The Program provides Massachusetts cities and towns
with matching grant funds and direct technical assistance to preserve significant
municipally-owned historic landscapes listed or eligible for listing on the
National Register of Historic Places.
Through this grant program, municipalities may apply for up to $50,000 per year
for construction or preservation maintenance projects. Eligible activities include
inventory and planning, construction, preservation maintenance, public education
and stewardship. The deadline for submitting applications to Massachusetts Department
of Environmental Management’s Office of Historic Resources is Tuesday,
May 15, 2001.
Candaras states, “The 13th Hampden District and surrounding communities
have a great many historic sites that could benefit from this Program and we
are eager to assist groups with qualifying projects in obtaining funding.”
